Search the library catalog
In thelibrary catalog (OPAC), you will find the complete online and print collection of the Weingarten University Library. This includes books, journals, university publications, e-books, e-journals, databases, and open-access titles. Please note that the catalog does not list journal articles.
The catalog displays the availability of materials, provides links to full texts, and allows you to request and reserve materials. Access to your library account is integrated into the catalog, where you can renew borrowed items.
Printed materials are arranged on the shelves by subject category (notation) and call number and are available for checkout. If a title is not available, you can submit an acquisition request or check the availability through interlibraryloan.

Under the "Bibliography" section, you'll find the "New Acquisitions" link, which lists all the newly acquired printed books for each subject.
Course reserves are provided by the library at the request of instructors for their courses for the duration of a semester. Books from course reserves may be checked out overnight or over a weekend.

The Dialect Collection includes the “Württemberg Dialect Archive of Wilhelm König.” This archive contains over 8,000 items related to the Swabian and other dialects. Works by Wilhelm König and the late college professor Dr. Norbert Feinäugle—a dedicated advocate for the preservation of the dialect and fellow collector—as well as works by numerous well-known dialect authors can be found there, along with dictionaries, cookbooks, and gardening books, postcards, and even “d’ badische Struwwelpeter” and “Asterix em Morgaländle.” Over the course of decades, Wilhelm König compiled this diverse collection of dialect treasures. The archive rightly bears his name. These items can be identified in the online catalog by the following item details:
The Stottele Collection is a collection of children’s and young adult books that is available to all university members and the interested public. It comprises approximately 6,000 titles and is constantly being expanded. The collection is located on the ground floor of the library.

We are always interested in providing our users with media that are missing from our collection or are not available in sufficient quantities.
To do so, you can submit an acquisition request to us.
Placement in the Library Collection
Our books are freely accessible and arranged by subject, so that books on related topics are placed next to one another.
The materials are arranged according to the Regensburg Union Classification (RVK), which is used in many academic libraries throughout Germany. If you cannot find books on the shelves that are listed as available in the catalog, please feel free to ask us.
E-books
Quick access to the desired literature
Discover our extensive selection of e-books. If you are a member of PHW or RWU, you can access the e-books from your respective campus; otherwise, you can access them on our public computers in the university library. You don’t need an e-book reader to do so. You can simply read and work online.

There you will find all e-books licensed by the HSB Weingarten.
The e-books we have acquired generally do not have a “loan period,” which means that PDF files downloaded once remain on your computer. The e-books offered are licensed by the University Library either for the University of Education (PHW) or the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU)—and in some cases for both institutions. You can find the information about which institution an e-book is licensed for in the full details of a search result in theonline catalog under “Copy Information.”
If you are searching exclusively for e-books, use the “Advanced Search” feature and select the “E-book” media type under the “Media Type” tab. The results list will then display only e-books.

: All e-books listed in our online catalog can be accessed and downloaded by all library users at the designated search terminals without prior registration.
Within the PHW
campus network: Here, you can access and download all e-books listed in our online catalog that are licensed for the Weingarten University of Education (PHW).

Within the RWU
campus network: Here, you can access and download all e-books listed in our online catalog that are licensed for Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU).

Outside the university network for PHW and RWU
members: Electronic resources can also be accessed via a personal login (remote access to e-books). The personal login only works with providers that technically support personal authentication.
Access to licensed e-books from off-campus is available only to students and staff of our two universities (PHW and RWU). External users have no access outside the library!
Can e-books be downloaded?
Not all e-books are the same. Whether downloading is possible in full, in part, or not at all depends on the specific license terms of the publisher or provider. You can find an overview of the applicable download options in the Terms of Use.

- The terms of use of the publishers or providers must be read before use and adhered to during use.
- The use of e-books is permitted only for personal use and academic purposes. Commercial use or exploitation is not permitted. Sharing the content with third parties—for example, in the form of printouts or downloads—is not permitted.
- Only individual pages or chapters of the e-books may be saved or printed. The systematic downloading or printing of large amounts of data is not permitted. The use of programs for continuously and automatically searching, indexing, or downloading content (such as web crawling, spider, or download programs) or other actions that place an undue burden on the providers’ systems beyond normal usage is not permitted. Violations may result in the permanent suspension of online access for individual users or even for the entire university, as providers monitor download rates and volumes using technical means.
