Course Materials for the Semester
Course reading lists are compilations of literature related to specific courses that instructors make available to their students. These lists primarily consist of foundational texts and works that the instructor considers essential. The course collections are shelved separately from the rest of the collection. You’ll find them on the ground floor next to the stairs.
The materials in the course collections are part of the reference collection, which means they cannot be checked out.
As a rule, a course reserve collection remains in place for the duration of a semester and is dissolved after the course ends, with the materials integrated into the regular collection. You can find an overview of the current course reserve collections here under “Reading Lists.”

Newspaper Section
Always up to date!
On the ground floor, you’ll find our newspaper section, which carries a variety of daily newspapers. There, you can read:
- The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
- The Frankfurter Rundschau
- Das Parlament
- The Schwäbische Zeitung
- The Süddeutsche Zeitung
- Die Zeit
Magazine Section
In our periodicals section on the ground floor, you’ll find the latest issues of journals from the current year covering a variety of subject areas—from A for “Everyday Culture” to T for “Technology.” The current issues are part of our reference collection and therefore cannot be checked out. You can find an overview of our journals here.
Please note:
Back issues of journals are bound and stored on the second basement level. The volumes may be checked out for 2 weeks.
Lockers in the lobby
You’re welcome to store your jackets and bags in our lockers in the foyer of the Fruchtkasten. To use the lockers, students must validate their student ID. You’ll find the machine for this on the wall next to the printer. Non-students need a locker card, which you can get at the counter during our service hours.
Please note:
The lockers are not intended for overnight use. If the locker is not opened before the fruit box closes, it will automatically lock and cannot be reopened on your own the next day. In this case, please contact the staff at the service counter. A fee of 2.50 euros per day will be charged for unauthorized overnight use!
Scan, Print, Copy
Our book scanners are located on the ground floor of the university library; you can use them to save chapters to your own USB drive free of charge.
There is also a copier and printer in that room. To print or copy, use your prepaid student ID card to transfer the document you want to print to the machine.

The card must also be loaded to make copies. Insert it into the designated card slot on the machine and select the number of copies and color or black-and-white.
Wi-Fi & On-Site Access to E-Resources
Wi-Fi via Eduroam
Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU) and Weingarten University of Education (PHW) are members of the eduroam network, which is growing to include more and more universities and academic institutions worldwide.
Members of both universities can access the Wi-Fi at a host university via eduroam.
Members of other universities have access to the Wi-Fi in the university library via eduroam. Instructions are available under: “Wi-FiAccess in the University Library via ‘eduroam’.” A prerequisite is that the home institution or host university is a member of the eduroam network.
Authentication is based on the credentials provided by your home institution. For more information about eduroam and a list of all members of the eduroam network, visit www.eduroam.org.
Access to E-Resources on Your Own Device
As a member of the university community, you can use Shibboleth to authenticate with your PHW account (the same login credentials as for Moopaed) or your RWU account (using the same login credentials as for the LSF) to access licensed electronic resources (databases, e-books, and e-journals) from any internet-enabled device, even when you’re outside your university’s network.
You can also use Shibboleth to connect to your university’s respective Wi-Fi networks.
Library Computers
Computers are available for your research within the university library. You can download digital media there and save it to a cloud service. As a student or employee of the State of Baden-Württemberg, you have access to the free cloud service bwSyncandShare.
Media Collection at the realLab Location
The reaLLab (formerly the Elementary School Center) at the Weingarten University of Education offers a wide range of activity-based materials designed to support engaging and holistic instruction in standard elementary school subjects, as well as materials for courses at the PHW. You can borrow these materials and use them in seminars, at school, during training courses, or at other practical training facilities. The facilities are located on the second floor of the Fruchtkasten and are accessible to both prospective and experienced teachers during opening hours. In addition, during opening hours and at joint activities and events, there is an opportunity to exchange experiences and network.
realLab has many years of experience through various practical projects with schools in the region and also assists with arranging internships, implementation projects, and lesson examples.
