E-books are defined as monographic works in electronic form. This includes both works that are published primarily in electronic form or in parallel with a print edition, as well as digitized books. The Weingarten University Library offers e-books from various publishers.

Searching for E-Books
All licensed e-books can be found in the library catalog. The links lead directly to the full texts on the individual providers’ websites.

Access
The resources are available to all university members in the library and can be accessed on the campuses of both universities, depending on which university has licensed the e-book. In addition, the electronic resources can also be accessed from your home computer using your personal login (Shibboleth authentication). The personal login only works with providers that technically support personal authentication.

Non-university members, known as walk-in users, can access the resources on research computers in the library that are specifically provided for this purpose.

The following generally applies to paid publisher offerings:

• Access to full-text articles is permitted exclusively to members of the respective university.
• The full texts of articles may only be printed
  or saved for personal use and for research purposes. 
• Systematic downloading of articles or search results, particularly by robots, is prohibited.
  Failure to comply may result in the publisher’s server being blocked for the entire campus! 
• Articles may not be shared with third parties, either electronically or in printed form.
• Author names and publishers’ copyright notices must not be deleted
  or overwritten in the electronic version.
• Please observe the publishers’ guidelines (on their websites) regarding the permitted retention period for
  downloaded articles!

Wi-Fi Access at a Partner University
 

Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences and the University of Education are members of the eduroam network,
which is growing to include more and more universities and research institutions worldwide.

Members of both universities can access Wi-Fi at a host university via eduroam.

Visitors to the university library have Wi-Fi access via eduroam.
Instructions can be found under: "Wi-Fi Access in the University Library via 'eduroam'"

This requires that the home institution or host university be a member of the eduroam network.

Authentication is based on the credentials provided by your home institution. For more information about eduroam and a list of all members of the eduroam network, visit www.eduroam.org.

The Electronic Journal Library (EZB) provides an overview of e-journals from all academic disciplines.
The University Library acquires licenses tailored to the respective profiles of the Weingarten University of Education (PHW) and the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU) to provide university members with access to e-journals.
Please note that PHW members do not have access to e-journals licensed by RWU, and vice versa.

How the EZB works:

Some electronic journals can be accessed free of charge. These journals are marked with a green dot in the EZB. Journals licensed for PHW or RWU are marked with a yellow dot. Journals marked with a red dot are subject to a fee and are not licensed for the respective university.
You can select or deselect the licensed and unlicensed journals by clicking the respective buttons in the upper right corner. If the Weingarten University Library has a print version of an e-journal in its collection, this is indicated in the full view of the e-journal. When accessing the system from outside the university networks, e-journals licensed by the respective universities can be accessed via Shibboleth authentication. 

Paid e-resources are made available through contracts with providers (publishers, etc.) that specify the terms of access.
Providers generally distinguish between university affiliates (students, staff, faculty) and external library users (students from other universities, members of the public, alumni,
etc.) who are not affiliated with either of the two universities.

Access to our digital resources (databases, e-books, and full-text journals) therefore depends on the location and status of the library user. 

All library users have access to digital resources on the library’s public computers (research terminals). No login is required!

When working inside the library with your own laptop, notebook, or smartphone, please connect via the “Eduroam Wi-Fi.”
You will then have access to the e-resources licensed by your university (PHW or RWU).
You can find information on which university the e-resource (e-book, e-journal, database) is licensed for in the copy details for a title in our library catalog.
Unfortunately, non-university members do not have access to the e-resources here.
