DBIS lists all databases licensed for the University of Education and the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU)—including bibliographic databases, full-text databases, fact databases, etc.—as well as freely accessible databases on the Internet. Accessibility is indicated by a traffic-light system.

The Database Information System “DBIS” is a collaborative service for accessing academic databases. It lists all databases offered by the library and organizes them by subject. In addition, there is an advanced search feature that allows users to enter keywords or search for databases with a geographic focus, among other options. DBIS is now offered as a user service in nearly 300 libraries.

The Weingarten University Library generally provides all employees of the Weingarten University of Education and the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences with access to the following types of equipment:

collectionsReference and laboratory collections are “off-site” collections, meaning the materials are checked out to a personal account subject to special conditions.

Semestercollections, on the other hand, are formally a temporary, separate collection. In this case, the materials remain within the University Library’s collection and are assigned a reference status, as well as a separate location distinct from their actual physical location. 

The duration is limited to the lecture and exam period of a semester and includes selected titles that can be added by faculty members at the Weingarten University of Education and the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences for their respective lectures and seminars. They comprise literature centrally relevant to the respective seminar or lecture, which is intended to be permanently available to students on site. Semester collections are arranged alphabetically by faculty member’s name and are maintained as a temporary on-site collection.
At the end of the respective semester, the relevant collections may be extended for retention in the following semester.
Semester collections that are not extended are returned to the regular collection.

Off-site semester collections will no longer be approved. Depending on their purpose and function, existing collections will be converted into either semester collections (at the HSB) or laboratory collections. For future requests, please refer to these two categories.

Research collections will henceforth be managed either as laboratory collections or as reference collections. Laboratory collections are set up temporarily for the duration of a project and may need to be extended in the event of a project extension or follow-up projects; reference collections, on the other hand, are subject to no further restrictions for the duration of the employment relationship.

There is no limit on the number of books per collection. Books in these collections cannot be reserved by other users.
